Naval war question easy 10 points?

I have to write a 1 page essay about how it is better to have only a war in the sea and not on land. This is due tomorrow so please answer fast.

I can’t use examples from past wars to support my points. So far, I only have that having a war limited to only the sea would lower death rates of innocent citizens, and it would be cheaper for our country because after the war, we wouldn’t have to spend money on repairing our resources and land that was destroyed in the war.

Please help! I don’t know how to make this longer. Easy 10 points to whoever gives the most detailed, yet easy to understand answer.

Thanks in advance.

I can think of more reasons against a war fought only on water than for it.
Cost for one. The cost of replacing ships that were sunk would be astronomical. For example, a Ford Class aircraft carrier costs $9 billion to build. A Nimitz Class carrier costs $6.2 billion. An amphibious ship like the USS New York costs over $1 billion. Two or three well placed torpedoes or a couple of guided bombs or cruise missiles could cost the Navy billions upon billions of dollars at a time.

Secondly, the loss of life would yield staggering numbers. Assuming just one aircraft carrier was sunk in open waters, up to 5,500 (crew size of a nuclear carrier) could lose their lives in a matter of minutes. That is equivalent to roughly 6 entire battalions of infantry soldiers or Marines. That is more troops dying in one single battle than in the last 7 years of fighting in Iraq (4,691 so far).

Lastly, naval warfare itself has changed. In the early days, ships would align themselves broadside to one another and exchange cannon fire. Boarding parties would then climb aboard the enemy’s ship and fight hand to hand/sword to sword with rifle fire support by Marines up high in the ship’s riggings. Time moved on, guns got bigger, ships got sturdier, and engagement distances grew. Naval warfare has evolved to serve a more modern role in support of various combat missions. For example, the last US Navy battleship was built in 1944 (the USS Missouri) and was the last to be decommissioned in 1992. The Navy still has destroyers, but in smaller numbers and they are not really equipped [for the most part] for surface warfare and direct engagement of other ships. The majority have been either purpose-built or retrofitted to deliver long range cruise missiles in support of combat on land or anti-aircraft precision fire. Sustained ship to ship combat would be clumsy and costly.
The military as a whole has evolved to work in unison with cohesion and cooperative specialized roles. The Marine Corps cannot get around without the Navy. The Air Force cannot land it’s planes without the Army and Marines. The Navy and Marines cannot land their planes without the Air Force. And so on and so forth.
To try and fight a war with only one branch of the military, in only one setting, would be impossible at best. The logistics of it in this day and age would be nigh impossible. A metaphor would be to cut off the hands of a gladiator and arm him with a spear.

Just my 2 cents. Looking forward to hearing other view points. Good luck on the paper.
btw, your teacher that assigned this isn’t a veteran is [s]he?

I am looking for a good Word Press plug in?

I have searched in the plugin directory and google, thus it has landed me here to ask someone :) . Does anyone know of a plugin that will allow the admin to change text within a page to another font. For example, the css only allows Arial, admin wants a word to be in Times Roman, I need something that will allow this easily in the admin area. Add on can be paid or free, let me know. Thanks in advance.
I know you can do it in standard HTML mode, but when the customer is pretty much illiterate to HTML this method wouldn’t work. I need something more user friendly.
Upon examining the link you gave I believe Advanced TinyMCE will work for my needs for my customers. Thank you.

Switch to HTML view in the editor. Wrap the word you want changed with:

This will be in TNR

Note that if you use this method, you must remain in HTML editing mode.

Alternatively, you can hack TinyMCE:
