Google Adwords?

Has anyone ever used google adwords? I have been using them for about a week to advertise products from my website.
So far I have had 140 clicks and spent about $50.00 resulting in 4 sales. Not a very good average in my opinion.
I’m pretty sure I have it all set-up correctly as far as my keywords, descriptions, titles and Landing Pages are concerned.
Does anyone have any tips on using adwords or ppc?
Is there a better way for a small fish trying to sell a few products to advertise? Here is what I sell!

The cost of adwords ads are effected by an increasing amount by the ad quality score. If you change te text on a landing page so it doesn’t coincide as well with the ad language the bid amount required to rank will go up. Apparently as part of a policy to discourage hard sell sales pages and affiliate marketers in general, which they believe don’t make for a positive user experience, the quality score system was added. Some people making a living from 1 page sales web sites were put out of business overnight. The quality score is a double edge sword in the sense that as the CTR for a keyword goes down, the quality score drops and the click costs increase, the quality score for a given keyword seems to stick to your account.
Landing pages now have to be made more like regular pages, with links allowing users to exit the page, privacy policy links and of course text that discusses the subject identified in the ad text and keyword.
