Affiliate marketing’s one of the quickest methods to generate cash flow on the web today.

Among its many benefits is the fact that you don’t have to spend time or money researching and developing a new product. All of this has been done for you by the product owner.

This is a tremendous burden lifted off your shoulders because this is usually the most costly aspect of any business venture.

A word of caution though, you should still do a little research yourself as to whether the market wants the product you are looking to promote and whether the price point is fair and reasonable enough to attract a big audience.

Once this is done and you have found the product or service you want to promote and are satisfied with the affiliate program you should set up what is referred to as a squeeze page.

Second is an autoresponder. These too are fairly inexpensive. Many hosting accounts will now offer free autoresponders with their service.

Third is an HTML editor. There are several free editors out there that are easily found through a quick search. Nothing fancy is needed, just a simple user friendly application.

And the final ingredient is a little copy writing skill.

Here is a tip on what to write on your page: Go to the product sales page. Pick out the highlights, the biggest benefits you can see offered. Think about what other benefits there are that may not be stated already and jot them down.

Now go into your HTML editor and put together a small sales page using a good headline, subhead and bullet points listing all the benefits you gathered. This is where the copy writing skill comes in.

Put the email capture form generated from your autoresponder on the bottom of the page. Let your prospect know that by leaving their name and email address you will then reveal this highly coveted tool, piece of information, service or whatever it is you have and they so desperately want.

Do not mention the name of the product or service on the Capture Page, just the benefits. The reason for this is because they may have seen this product or service before and were sitting on the fence about it and you want the prospect to purchase through your link. You are going to nudge them over the fence with your presentation.

All you are trying to do is build interest, pique their curiosity and whet their appetite for more information.

Set up your autoresponder with 6-7 emails that go out in 3-4 day intervals, each building on one of the benefits mentioned on your squeeze page.

Then add in other related services or products that you are an affiliate of. Repetition is the key and your squeeze page gives you that advantage over other affiliates.

2. Main Headline – Make it grab there attention. Huge font, (Headline 1) use some Red, or all Red if you prefer. Use words like ’secret’, ’shocking’, ‘controversial’. You simply want to create interest they are obviously interested, so give ‘em what they want.
3. Professional EBook Cover-  Place it next to the Headline. Use good graphics and a decent sized image. The pictuire of the ecover will increase conversions greatly. 4. Personal Introduction – Place it right below the Main Headline. Introduce yourself. it builds a rapport with visitors. They will trust you a bit more if you introduce yourself, it makes you real. Not to mention, it shows that you stand behind your product.
5. Photo – Next to the Intro. Its not mandatory. But it can make a huge difference. When people see your face, they cant help but trust you even more. It goes along with the introduction. If you show yourself, you must believe in the product.(Also, add an updating time and date script to it)
6. Bullet Points – Below the intro. Bullet points draw people in. They are easy to read, and you can name all the benefits quickly and easily. Use the bullet points to show visitors why they should join your list.
7. Call to Action – Right below the bullet points, above the sugn up box. Tell them exactly what they need to do to join. “Fill in your name and email below to discover all these tips and tricks immediately”.

Just check out Google. But doing this will also increase your conversions. You ever notice how professional it looks when a marketer adds the hand written signature? Its the little  things like that , that will separate you from the amateurs. 
11. Last thing, add the  - Disclaimer – Privacy Policy – Contact Us – Links at the bottom of the page. Make sure you link them directly to the pages they belong to. When I first started, I simply tried to imitate some other sites and tried to make it fit me and my product. And obviously the contact can be your email address, preferrably yourname@website.com.

A good lead capture page is essential in order to get more leads it can be the difference between success and failure in an online business. It’s all about getting those leads. So what does a lead capture page do? Well it provides information about you and your product and hopefully entices your prospect to give you their details and hence become a lead.

There are several key aspects to creating a good lead capture page. I will deal with the actual content of the page here rather than how to make the page using html or frontpage , Flash etc.

A good header or title is the first aspect. This is one of the most important parts of your page as it’s the first thing your prospect will see and has to grab their attention and make them read more or they will just click off and onto something else and you’ve lost your opportunity. something like “Systems Work – People Fail – You’ve heard the success stories – Now it’s your turn to become one” It’s a bold statement that is not self explanitairy but is entriging so entices the customer to read on to find out what its all about. Also it mentions that it’s their chance to be a success and who does not want that.

The second aspect is that you need to tell your story. In order for the prospect to connect and identify with you it needs to be personal. The prospect needs to feel like they are getting to know you at the same time as getting to know about you opportunity. There are tools that you can use to help with the connection you need to make with the prospect. A video is great as the prospect can see and hear you so they feel more of a connection. A photograph also works really well especially when coupled with a voice message is almost as good as a video. The connection is really helped by tones and expressions and general body language.

The third aspect is that you need to have the lead capture section where the prospect will enter their details (usually their name and email possibly with a phone number) It is essential that in this section you have a call to action. In other words a statement that tells the prospect what you would like them to do next. Like “Enter your email here” – You can back this up with a message in your voice or video message. Something like “enter your email and I will get straight back to you with all the details of exactly how I make money”

The colours that are used on the page are also important. Generally a dark blue background with a white column in the centre with black text on and a red title work best but play around with the options and fonts to see what works best.

Once you have built you lead capture page you should go through a testing process which is often refered to as split testing. The purpose of this is to refine your page to see what is working best. The principal is that you should send traffic through two versions of the same page and see which works best. You can yest two pages at the same time and there are various tools available to help with this. If you google “Split Testing” there are several listed – Including googles own tool. It is best to change one small item on the page to see what works best. Even the smallest changes can make a difference – start with the Header or Title as that is the most important part. The colour or font of the title could be changed – Put some traffic through both pages and see which one converts click to leads the best. Make a small change to the best page and start the process over again. This way you can gradually refine your page to see what works best.

Well, a Landing Page is, as per Wikipedia :-

The page will usually display content that is a logical extension of the advertisement or link, and that is optimized to feature specific keywords or phrases for indexing by search engines.”

Each eBook has a landing page which is the sales page and usually an “about the author” page as well…

The sales pages are not islands. One one of my websites they are actually all part of a collection I have. I do not hide that fact at all that I do more than sell each individual eBook on my website…

What am I driving at?

I’ve said this myself in the past about landing pages. I’ve always thought that having an island for a landing page was absolutly essential. Don’t give anyone an out EXCEPT for that affiliate link…

Cut to the chase…

I’ve been getting search engine traffic for a while now… and have made some sales. In the last week I sold two different eBooks on different topics…

I have different ways I track visitors, but one of the most useful scripts I use is StatCounter. It enables me to see the search keywords next to the landing pages….

AND it also allows me to track the persons movements throughout my website.

That last feature is why I decided to start this thread.

I analyzed the movements of the two sales this last week and guess what?

They didn’t leave the page AT ALL. I have a menu bar across the top. I have a link to the “about the author”… nope, they found what they want and bought.

I’ve noticed this in the past as well, but these two finally sealed it for me… maybe building a website and including web pages within that serve the website as a whole, but can also be used as stand alone landing pages without changing the linking structure is…. not a problem.

I’ve always had landing pages that are part of a larger website and have had success with them… but this kind of made me rethink the ‘rule of thumb’ I use when it comes to building a landing page solely for an Adwords Campaign.

Maybe it’s as simple as this. Maybe the surroundings are irrelevant. If the landing page serves the searcher by helping them, that’s all that matters.

Again, this is just my experience and may very per individual marketer, the market, product, service and campaign…

Have multiple avenues of traffic is a good thing… approaching it this way can open the door to more conversions for you with very little extra effort.

This is probably something that can be easily tested. You can easily create a website with the landing page and then also have an isolated page.

I just found it interesting and thought maybe, just maybe, we shouldn’t so easily rule out having a landing page connected to a larger web…

Who knows… if done right, maybe it will increase conversion.

This morning my Manager of Member Services came in, quite disgusted at something that I had done.

The night before I had sent out an email with a link to a squeeze page that I had created, and she was completely repulsed by how ugly it was! She told me that with the fabulous graphic designer that we have available in-house, I could have had a much better looking squeeze page created for the campaign I was doing.

She even went on to say that my web designer was hurt because I had created such an abomination! (It turns out he wasn’t hurt, he was actually happy to see me create such a piece of dirt as it secures his job further)

I patiently listened to her continue on about how I need to provide better quality websites for the experience of my readers. After she was done and had gone to work, I looked at the stats that the squeeze page had produced overnight:

66.22% conversion rate!

Why on earth would this ugly squeeze page get a whopping 66.22% conversion rate when well designed pages struggle to get 20%? Well, I’ll let you in on the secret. The visitors were “sold” before they even got to the squeeze page!

You see, I was emailing my own readers about an affiliate program that was happening within the next few days. In my email I explained all the benefits of using this program, and told them that if they wanted to learn more then they needed to sign up at that squeeze page.

When people went to the squeeze page they already knew they wanted to sign up. Obviously some backed out (33.78% to be exact), but that could have been for various reasons, one maybe being how ugly my page was!

So what can we learn from this interesting experience?

1. Relationship building is key

If you don’t have a great relationship with your readers then selling will be VERY difficult.

2. Pre-selling is king

As my good friend Todd Gross says, pre-selling is key to making a ton of cash through affiliate marketing (or through selling your own products).

Where do you pre-sell? Everywhere! In particular your emails, your videos, your blog posts, your articles, and anywhere else before the visitor is asked to purchase.

Because the visitors to the ugly squeeze page were pre-sold, they didn’t care how poorly written and ill conceived the page was – they already knew they wanted it.

3. Prettiness is not always important

In fact, I have found that the more “good looking” a website is, the lower it performs.

Maybe this is due to the fact that the graphics are distracting, or perhaps it is because little (or no) time is put into delivering a useful, consistent, valuable message. Whatever the reason, I suggest you try removing the header graphics, fancy animated gifs, and other “pretty-factors” from your squeeze and sales pages and see what happens.

You may be rather surprised.
